Mummy - Set & Lighting

I oversaw the fabrication process on set for Klaris the Mummy, managing tasks such as lighting setup, prop construction, and rigging.

The character's narrative involved a significant walk cycle, during which the animator intended for her to interact with an object midway through her stroll. It was crucial to weave a compelling story within her environment, with the object she encounters playing a pivotal role. To enhance the authenticity of the setting, I meticulously carved the wall and added depth by distressing the texture. Both the wall and the floor were coated with a mixture of glue, water, paint, and sand to achieve the desired aesthetic. Upon installation on set, I ensured that the seam between the wall and floor resembled a natural buildup of sand.

The crate was constructed using double popsicle sticks and a reinforced 1/4 inch MDF base to provide stability on set. I utilized acrylic paint to stain and detail the wood, while burlap served as an ideal filler material for the crate. After styling the burlap, I secured the strands in place with matte acrylic. A 1/8th wire was integrated into the plank on which the mummy would be caught, with 24 gauge wire attached to the end of the plank for easy fixation onto the mummy's bandages.

Our lighting approach was guided by a desire for a graphic and dramatic effect, drawing inspiration from iconic sources such as Indiana Jones and the Mummy ride at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
